How To Feel Better About Post-Spring Break Snow

SnowspringbreakIn a perfect world the end of spring break would mean the end of winter, but in this world Spring Break came too early and there's still snow falling from the sky (#UpstateNewYorkProbs.) So while I envisioned returning to school to constant sunshine and temperatures warm enough to ditch the bulky sweaters and winter coat, that is definitely not reality. Instead it's been snowing for the last two days, and the temperatures might, just might, hit 30 this weekend...great.

Of course, it is March so spring is coming, even if it is moving at a pace slower than the speed of a turtle, the weather will only continue to get warmer. In the meantime, here are a few ways to feel better about the weather:

1) Self Tanner
My favorite part of coming back from Spring Break is that it's the break where everyone travels. So even if you spent a week in bed watching Netflix at home, you can still return to school with a tan without it being so obviously fake.

After trying a million different self tanners, here are the best for every situation:

Five minute spray tan: Neutrogena

When you need a dark tan fast: Banana Boat

The everyday, post shower moisturizing lotion: Jergens

2) Wardrobe Updates

Slowly phasing out your winter wardrobe and reintroducing your spring clothes is the best way to feel like the warmer days are coming. Ditch the sweaters and start layering chambray shirts over colorful tanks and dresses with tights. Filling your closet with colorful pieces, rather than dark sweaters will brighten your mood before class everyday.

3) Think Warm

The best way to really combat the winter blues is by thinking about Spring. Some schools (like mine) have an extra spring break in April, or even their normal spring break coming up in the next few weeks, so start planning ahead by writing a packing list, finding new books to read, or shows to watch. Envision those afternoons spent outside in the sun without completely freezing.

4) Escape into a Book
Reading is definitely the best way to forget where you are. While reading everyday for class can be awful (even when the books are good), choosing your own book to read makes all the difference. After finishing On Beauty last week, I added two more books by Zadie Smith to my list: White Teeth and NW.

What are your tips for getting through the winter?

  1. […] As pretty as spring can be, I’m already spending time outside wondering when it’ll be warm enough to get a good tan, but for now I’ll continue to use my favorite self tanners.  […]
