5 Things That College Bloggers Are Doing Instead of Blogging

Now that the fall semester has started again and classes are starting to pick up, bloggers are becoming sparse. New posts are published less often and our draft boxes fill up with half written pieces. This might make more sense if we were in class 9 hours a day 5 days a week, but in reality most of us are taking 15 credit hours this semester. So where is all of our valuable time going?

1. Naps

There's absolutely no denying that the second school starts up again college students have much less energy. Summer days might have been filled with part time jobs or internships, catching up with old friends, and days at the beach. Maybe once in a while we take a nap or two but for the most part summer days are filled with endless energy and movement. By the time fall semester rolls around and the weather begins to change we are exhausted. All of that extra energy from the warm weather and shining sun is gone.

I try to set some rules at the beginning of each semester to limit napping, but the power of sleep always wins.

2. Friends

I love writing more than anything-especially if it's for my blog-but there is no denying that if I am sitting in a room with my friends and they're all talking, I'm not writing. College is a once and a lifetime chance to live in the same building as all of your best friends. To be able to just walk down the hall or down the stairs at nearly anytime of the day or night and have someone to talk to is actually really incredible. The fact that this only last for four-ish years makes me believe that taking advantage of that time together as much as possible is more important than anytime spent staring at the computer.

As awesome as it is to be writing and knowing that someone on the other side of the screen is reading it, it's important to spend plenty of time communicating to the friends who are right in front of you too.

3. School

This is a no-brainer. If you don't have enough work to completely overwhelm yourself nearly everyday you're either really lucky or you're doing something very wrong. Having hours of reading every night is not a rare event, so if I'm looking at 100+ pages of reading combined for all of my classes the next day, it's safe to say blogging is put on the back burner.

4. Extracurriculars

This really depends on how active you are on campus, but if you're part of a Her Campus chapter at your school and you have deadlines for articles that are much stricter than your own personal blog deadlines, that obviously will come first. If you're crazy enough to be the Campus Correspondent of your school's chapter than you have even more work on your plate. And while all of that is so much fun, the creative juices in your brain stop flowing after one too many articles. When this happens you tend to refer back to the first point on this list and sleep the rest of the day away.

5. Food

It would be crazy not to include this on the list. If you're in college you know how important food is. Whether it's finishing a can full of chocolate frosting when you're stressed, heading off campus for an unhealthy meal, or spending two hours at dinner in the dining hall with your friends. Food is a very time consuming activity and it definitely gets in the way of blogging. Can you type when you have a giant Chipotle burrito in your hand? I definitely can't.
